Position Title: Hospital Waste Technician (Part-Time)
Hours: 12–20 hours per week

I. Job Summary

This part-time position supports the Waste Management Sustainability Services onsite program. The role involves manual labor focused on the safe handling, collection, packaging, transportation, and installation of medical, nonhazardous pharmaceutical, sharps, and hazardous pharmaceutical waste within a hospital setting. The technician may also be called upon to assist with additional tasks or provide support when extra personnel are needed.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure proper segregation of waste types and compliance with regulatory shipment timelines
• Adhere to container labeling requirements and maintain accurate tracking logs
• Promote best practices to help reduce waste volumes, improve efficiency, and generate cost savings
• Perform labor-intensive tasks, including facility-wide waste collection
• Provide guidance or support to less experienced team members when necessary
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Follow all safety protocols and attend required training sessions and meetings
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, or property damage to supervisor
• Adhere to ISO 14001/9001 Environmental and Quality Management System policies and controls
• Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations
• Demonstrate strong customer service and de-escalation skills

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not include any supervisory responsibilities.

IV. QualificationsEducation & Experience

• Required: High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of relevant experience
• Preferred: Associate's Degree

Licenses & Certifications

• 24-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred but not required

Other Skills & Requirements

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and reliability

V. Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Frequent use of motor coordination and finger dexterity (e.g., machine operation, keyboarding)
• Regularly required to lift up to 30 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds
• Exposure to occupational risks (e.g., cuts, burns, chemicals) most of the workday
• Exposure to challenging environmental conditions (e.g., odors, noise, weather extremes)
• Ability to perform tasks in inclement weather
