The Director of Field Operations plays a key leadership role in overseeing day-to-day field activities, personnel performance, fleet management, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures that all services are delivered with the highest level of safety, efficiency, and professionalism. The ideal candidate is decisive under pressure, excellent with logistics, and thrives in a fast-paced, service-focused environment.Core Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Direct and supervise all field personnel, including drivers, dispatchers, and on-site leads.
- Oversee daily scheduling, route optimization, and deployment activities across Palm Beach County and the South Florida region.
- Implement and maintain procedures for shift start-ups, field readiness checks, and mid-shift quality assurance reviews.
- Conduct regular site audits and field assessments to ensure quality, safety, and compliance standards are met.
Personnel Oversight
- Manage timekeeping, attendance, uniform compliance, and field conduct of all field employees.
- Provide coaching, performance reviews, corrective actions, and development plans.
- Serve as the escalation point for conflict resolution, incident response, and emergency operations.
Fleet & Equipment Management
- Coordinate daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Track and report vehicle availability, down times, and mechanical concerns.
- Partner with maintenance vendors to prioritize and resolve equipment issues in real time.
- Maintain documentation on vehicle compliance, registration, and inspection records in accordance with DOT and company policies.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the primary point of contact for on-site client communication, issue resolution, and service performance updates.
- Ensure timely responses to service disruptions, customer complaints, and change requests.
- Represent the company during client meetings, site visits, and quarterly performance reviews.
Regulatory & Risk Compliance
- Monitor and enforce adherence to FMCSA, DOT, and local/state safety regulations.
- Conduct driver log audits, spot inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, safety reports, and service metrics.
- Develop corrective action plans for non-compliance events or operational deviations.
Data & Performance Reporting
- Submit weekly operational status updates to executive leadership, including performance trends, issues, and improvements.
- Maintain tracking tools using Excel, Google Sheets, and dispatch/fleet management platforms.
- Identify service gaps and recommend process improvements or resource realignments.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation operations, logistics, or field management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Deep understanding of transportation compliance (FMCSA/DOT/State/Local).
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities in fast-moving or high-pressure environments.
- Tech-savvy with working knowledge of scheduling systems, telematics, and spreadsheet tools.
- High emotional intelligence and customer service orientation with professional communication skills.
- Ability to travel across the region regularly and work extended or flexible hours as needed.
Performance Goals
- 95%+ on-time route execution rate across all service categories.
- 100% pre- and post-trip fleet inspection logs completed and filed weekly.
- Maintain less than 2% operational disruptions due to preventable field issues.
- Achieve 90%+ client satisfaction scores on quarterly service reviews.
